  • Because I live in Panama, I keep a close eye on the progress of the Panama Canal expansion which is due to open in April 2016. The expansion will allow post-Panamax ships to go through the Canal and triple the revenue of the Canal overnight.

    It’s a big deal worldwide and really good news for most! But it will also cause millions of workers to lose their jobs on the west coast of the United States. Many eastern and southern coasts in the United States will be big winners when the Canal expansion opens up.

    Global trade does affect local markets in the United States.
