On the conference call tonight, I talked about the importance of having a really good domain name for your web site.
It needs to speak to the people you want to attract and not be all “about you”
My domain name http://www.SellYourHousein7Days.com is a perfect example.
When people run across it, they want to know how can I sell MY house in 7 days — it creates curiosity to go to the web site to see more.
But — there is a huge caution that you need to be aware of with domain names.
Just because you can buy it at Godaddy.com or elsewhere it does not mean you have the right to use it.
Someone else could have a trademark or service mark for the name and it could get you into a legal mess if you use the domain
So…. before you go out and buy a domain name, check to see if there are any similar names that are trademarked.
Just do a search on Google for Trademarks and it will take you to the official government site.
This could save you a lot of money and grief!
