Muslim squatting racket in high end houses

My understanding of the classic concept of adverse possession is that it can be used for uncontested property abandonment. Apparently some people think it?s OK to attempt on properties that are, or soon will be, strongly contested. While the articles below focus on Muslim groups doing this with very large and very expensive luxury homes, it?s not unique to just some Muslims. Sometimes efforts to eject such squatters results in a long and very expensive court fight. Sometimes it results in SWAT team intervention.

Nov 12, 2015 from Charlotte, NC:

    Excerpt:

?It?s going on in every state,? Kory Flowers, an investigator with the Greensboro police and a national expert on sovereign groups, told the Washington Post.

Then there?s this March 8, 2013 story from Memphis, TN:

This 2010 story from Hampton, VA:

This excellent 2011 article from the British press covers the weird phenomena across the US:

    IAW, be careful out there.

I’ve read elsewhere that squatting has become a problem in all price range homes and not just Muslims.

Anyone heard of squatting problems in your area?

So, how do you protect a vacant rental property to prevent squatting from happening?

What are the laws in your town for getting squatters out? Ah… just remembered a squatting story I will tell in a different post

    My squatting experience….

About 20 years ago, I got a call from a lady who had a house for sale in South Dallas. Not such a great area but not the war zone either. When I asked how much if I paid her cash and closed in 2 weeks, she said $600 and she would not take a penny less! WOW! Apparently there were 6 children who inherited the property when Dad passed away and they each wanted to get $100.

So, I went to look at the house, a 3 bedroom 2 bath very very run down property with no front door and all windows broken. There were people passed out all over the place inside the house. It had become a CRACK house.

I called a friend to come over with a pick up truck load of plywood and nails to secure the property. Then I went to Kentucky Fried Chicken to get a large bucket of chicken. I lured the people out with the chicken. Then my friend secured the property.

A few hours later, I wrote the contract to buy the house for $600. The same day I flipped it for $5,000 to a rehabber.

Chicken won’t work for most squatters but it sure did work for crack addicts.

Jackie, you asked about other squatting stories. Here’s a whole new article on the subject across the US, but it’s not related to Muslims, but to the deteriorating economy:

    http://www.silverdoctors.com/with-the-economy-in-shambles-more-americans-turn-to-squatting-willing-to-take-the-risk/

The article even links to a book on Amazon the author claims is priced at $61.20. It turns out to be a 75 page book called “Squatters Handbook” but it’s labeled as the 12th edition and dated 2004 — one copy available at $222.00, with zero reviews. Ouch.

So I ran a search on the word SQUATTERS, and turned up little else. Then I tried SQUATTING, and pulled up 20 pages of hits (still on Amazon), a small percentage of which actually related to the meaning of squatting we’re discussing. Other meaning were occasionally more “colorful.”

So if you want to become an expert on the house squatting phenomenon, I’ve given you a head start. (It’s OK if you don’t all thank me at once. [grin])
