  • I remember visiting Peter Fortunato one time. There were several boats not far from his house. Not at a dock at a house, but just anchored in the middle of the bay.

Peter said a lot of people in Florida live on their boats or have a house boat so they can avoid high property taxes.

With real estate, even if there is no mortgage, you are never really free and clear because of the darn property taxes which are getting higher and higher every year. You can even lose your home if you don’t pay your property taxes.

One of the many reasons people are getting house boats (or moving to Panama) is to get away from the big expense of property taxes. There are even ways to eliminate income taxes.

There’s a paradigm shift in thinking going on. People are sick and tired of working long hours just to pay a lot of bills like taxes. Making $200,000 but paying $100,000 in taxes is just not working anymore. Luckily, there are alternatives.
