RansomWare innovation turns uglier

This bumps up the urgency a bit for defending against ransomware attacks on your computer. This latest racket of demanding payment (typically Bitcoin, etc to make charge reversals impossible) to unencrypt your hard drive (after which you discover all your data files were DELETED instead of merely being encrypted — the data equivalent of murdering the kidnapped child instead of returning her safely after payment was made) puts a premium on having current backups for one’s data, and some method of restoring the operating system in case that was compromised as well.

So if you don’t yet know an easy way to routinely do your data backups, and have a way to restore your operating system, get some help. After all, every hard drive (whether the original motorized rotating design or the newest SSDs [Solid State Design]) eventually reaches the end of its usable life, and your backups of both your data and your operating system are your ultimate defense.
